VGP 2011

September 26th, 2011

So finally we were out on an adventure again for trial. This time in Auerbach, Germany. VGP, the German full-purpose trial, which is their toughest test for the trained gun dog waited for us. In most cases, these trials are done normally during October, but because by then I’d rather just want to hunt it felt good to have found a trial that was the last weekend in September instead. This time I followed the same recipe, to bring two dogs, Nelly vom Wolfsbau and Kira parallel. Last year I trialed Nelly and the wirehaired pointer Dexter at HZP with big success but this test is much more difficult so I admit that I was a little bit nervous. The first day we started with the field and water work. Second day was blood tracking and more obedience in hunting situations. Both dogs worked well and it’s amazing that it was 26 different ratings they got.

Results: Both dogs won first prize. Nelly was the trials best dog with amazing 310 points out of a total 312. Followed only a few point behind was Kira with fantastic 304 points. So in practice, they went almost flawless, so it feels phenomenal. Sunday’s best surprise was that Kira did a fantastic blood track work and impressed both me and the judges. To again be able to bring two dogs parallel in these hard trials uleashed AND simultaneously perform the fine scores gives me confirmation that I am not completely wrong with what I am doing :-)

I want to thank everyone who helped me along the way but especially and above all, Sven Holmgren, who among other things served me with everything from fried sausages with white beans along the autobahn, being a long-distance driver, pep-coach and good company. Also a massive thanks to the organizers Der Verein für Französische Vorstehhunde for a good trial that was punctual and very enjoyable.

Pictures from the trial will eventually be posted in photo gallery .
