Double Jackpot!!

November 2nd, 2010

Last weekend we were again on an adventure, this time in Gunzburg, Germany. My pointing gun dogs breeding test (HZP) were on the agenda. To train two dogs, Nelly vom Wolfsbau and Blücher II aus den Hühnermoor parallel certainly have many advantages but to be honest, it is very demanding. It has not been easy and there were many times along the way when I scratched my head wondering if I’ve was in over my depth. When simultaneously studying a rather demanding programme (veterinary medicine), one might wonder whether it is optimal with this type of dogs. But I’m glad I made it and know that my bank of knowledge got a lot of new material to store ;-) .

Anyway, the last breeding trial for this autumn in Germany was waiting. The morning began with water work and in the afternoon, it was field work with all them diciplines. All hard work was finally really rewarded. Both Nelly and Dexter exceeded themselves and both of them did a really great job. Nelly ended up as trial winner with a fantastic 185 points, and shortly thereafter came Dexter, only beaten by Nelly, with with not-too-modest 182 points. In practice this means that they went flawlessly with ordinary maximum points plus gained a few extra points for their meritorious work. To handle two dogs parallely at trials without a lead YET performing performing gave one a comfortable feeling, to say the least. Both dogs each received a eleven score for handling which is great fun and a confirmation of what I mean that obedient dogs are better gun dogs. :-)

Now it’s finally only hunting adventures that awaits for both Nelly and Dexter. I want to thank everyone who helped me along the way and especially MVDr. Ladislav Molnar and his hunting association, which allowed me to train in their fine reedy ponds. Also thanks the organizers for a good trial that floated on nicely.
