VJP – Youth trial with Nelly and Dexter
April 27th, 2010
So we were off again on an adventure that is worth writing about. This weekend we were once again in northern Bavaria in Germany for the youth trial for pointing dogs. New for me was that this time I would be handling two dogs, Nelly and Dexter, on the same trial. Clearly a different but a pleasant experience.
7:30 Was the gathering for information and we assigned to groups and areas, everything done with the usual German efficiency. We were only three dogs in my group, that meant me and another dog handler.
All day we had great weather, maybe even too good. The dogs were affected by the heat so a lot of water was used. Although both of them worked well. Game poor areas made it incredibly difficult to find hares and game birds. During the whole day we found only four hares of which Dexter and Nelly got one each to work with. The same for when the birds. Two pairs of partridges was all that we found. Fortunately, the two found pairs were thanks to Dexter and Nelly. Full tens in all disciplines except for the search. Nelly lost one point there and Dexter lost two. Still well done by the dogs! ![]()
