That day we were at my hunting mentor Timo on a little hunting for buddies. 5 men and we were hunting a handful of small battues. Timo’s Deutsch Drathaar Ville is actually one of the reasons why I also got a DD. Ville is a true working engine and is used for almost everything. He and Timo had the first go and it didn’t take long before it was full action and barking. A group of red deers were driven of which one calf was shot. Congratulations Peter! The title is a bit dramatic and not really what I am going to write about. But today I was we invited to a nice hunting in Southern Sweden by my friends, Anders and Peter who are themselves wachtelhund fans. I myself am no breed fanatic although I have a particular fondness for German jagdterriers. Generally, one can say that I like the German concept of all-round dog. Now there has been a lot of snow here in southern Sweden. Actually even too much. Last Sunday we had to cancel one hunt as it was impossible to even get around on the roads of the hunting area. Snow up to mid-thigh is not what I expected here. Sure it is nice, but you can’t use the dogs in the deep snow when yourself can hardly get through. Finally back in Sweden! Fair enough that it’s great to be abroad, but nothing beats being at home. Moreover when there is a tradition of hunting with your friends in really nice hunting areas you feel just happy. This time I was in southeastern Scania for pure wild boar hunting. The model was Germany’s á la “Bewegungsjagd” ie driven hunt, but where dog handlers had assigned areas. You hunt a big battue for several hours and there is movement everywhere.
