Kleiner Münsterländer on the run

February 19th, 2009

From time to time I get reports from Kiras owner telling me how things are going, and now specifically about her hunting. He has invested in a Garmin Astro, which is a tracking system that shows where the dog is and records how it has been running.

After testing it myself and evaluating how the dog had run I would say that it is a nice and powerful tool that can be used in a good way. I am mostly thinking of planning how to set up the driven hunts.

Since you can record several dogs you can see how they covered the battues and how the drives went. When you have enough information you can also use it for planning what kind of dogs you need for the certain terrain, know how the game moves and if maybe the high seats needs to be moved. This is so the wait for next driven season won’t feel all too long.

The picture above shows a hunt where Kira has run 11 kilometers in total and had several drives and games shot for her. She was up to 500 meters from the handler. In the picture below you see a happy shooter who thanks Kira for her good work
